March Plant of the Month: Agave ‘Blue Glow’

Our March Plant of the Month, Agave 'Blue Glow', was selected for its striking form and beautiful blue-green leaves which are edged in vibrant red and yellow. A. 'Blue Glow' is on the small side for an Agave, forming solitary rosettes reaching 2-3 feet tall and wide at maturity. The tough, 18 inch long leaves have soft spines along the margins, and a sharp terminal spine.

Agave 'Blue Glow' is a hybrid between Agave attenuate and Agave ocahui. Like most plants in the Agavaceae family, Agave 'Blue Glow' requires little irrigation and thrives in full sun. This succulent is native to Mexico and hardy down to about 20 degrees F.

Plant Agave 'Blue Glow' among other succulents and cacti in a xeriscape garden, or use it as an accent among low-water use perennials with finer foliage for a contrast in form and texture. It is particularly attractive when it's placed in a location where the colorful leaf margins can be backlit. This Agave also looks great as a container plant!
