Be prepared before the rain comes

California is known for its beautiful weather and long, dry summer months, especially on the Central Coast, where we are spoiled with nearly perfect weather year round. But each winter there is a possiblity for rain to sweep in, sometimes with great intensity, and muddy up our piece of heaven.

Because of our normally mild weather, drainage is too often inadequate and over looked throughout the year, leaving issues to be discovered or addressed at the worst possible times turning a simple service or install into an emergency.

Planning ahead and addressing any potential issues is important as poor drainage can lead to real problems and extenstive damage not only to your landscaping but also your home. Excessive moisture near homes can weaken foundations, rot wooden structures, attract termites, breed mosquitos, lead to unpleasant odors, flood basements, and even cause health problems like mold allergies and asthma! All of this can lead to lower property values as well, adding insult to injury.

For homeowners that are familiar with their properties and have adequate drainage, preparing can be as simple as making sure the drains are clear and functioning - remove accumulated debris and use a hose to flush the system while monitoring the outlet for expected flow.

If you find the drain pipes clogged, you can use a plumbing snake or enzymes to break down or remove debris. If you suspect any breaks in the pipes from tree roots then you'll want to have it inspected and repaired before the rains come. This is also a good time to check your rain gutters and downspouts to ensure they are clear and flow where you need them to.

If you have maintenance service with us, our landscape maintenance crews will also use this time of the year to help clear drains, cut back nearby plant material, and try to spot any potential issues. We can also provide gutter cleaning services to current All Seasons clients who have single story properties.

If you don't know how well your property drains or are aware of issues, now is the time to inspect or install drainage. A typical system will cost in the ball park of $1,500, but the savings and peace of mind are priceless. Let All Seasons Gardening and Landscaping give you that peace of mind! Call today to make an appointment to get a free estimate on any drainage services you need.
